Outlook on the Web Overview
This article provides an overview of Outlook on the Web Exchange 2016 service in Office 365.
Outlook on the Web is an email service designed for highly integrated messaging and calendaring based on Microsoft Exchange in Office 365. Outlook on the Web supports the full functionality of Microsoft Outlook and can be used on any device from desktops to mobile devices.
For Outlook on the Web users, IT Services recommends and supports Microsoft Outlook for on-campus Windows users and Outlook for on-campus Mac users. For off-campus access, the recommended and supported client is the Office 365 interface provides an experience almost identical to Outlook 2016.
If you’re using Outlook on the Web on a mobile device you’ll see a different set of options than you do when you use it on a desktop or laptop computer. See Outlook Web App options on a mobile device (Also applies to Outlook on the Web for Office 365 Business).
During the process of applying for a CNetID an email address is created simultaneously. See the Email Options article for a more detailed explanation for University of Chicago users.
If you want to switch, and you are eligible, from a G Suite (formerly known as Google Apps) or other email account where you forward to the xMail system, please contact email@example.com.
Accessing Outlook on the Web
To access Outlook online to use with Office 365, go to the Office 365 sign-in page or the University of Chicago OWA landing page outlook.office.com/owa/uchicago.edu. You will need to login with your CNetID and your University of Chicago email address password.
Go to Using email in Outlook on the web and Outlook.com and learn to:
- Sign in to Outlook
- Sign out of Outlook
- Change your password
- Delete email or recover deleted email
- Create and send a new message
- Reply, reply all, or forward an email message
- Print an email message
- Create or delete an email folder
- Search for a piece of mail
- Archive old email messages

Exchange is configured to limit the number of recipients on a single email to 250 recipients.
