Resident Services - FAQ

This article explains answers to frequently asked questions for Hospital Residents and Fellows on how to access and authenticate to University-side services.

Is there any difference in resource accessibility between the University and Hospital VPNs?

Hospital employees use the Hospital’s VPN, which provides security-compliant access to sensitive data. The Hospital VPN restricts access to known malicious websites (such as adult/mature content, known spam sites, and sites known to promote or feature illegal activity). UCHADID holders may access the Hospital VPN but not the University VPN.

How can I access UChicago Secure wireless?

If you have a UCHADID, you will use your UCHADID and password to access the University’s wireless system. If you had a previous relationship with the University that resulted in your getting a CNetID, you must use your CNetID—even if you now have an active UCHADID - to access all University-side services, including the University wireless network.

How can I access online University resources (library, Canvas, etc.)?

If you have a UCHADID, you will use your UCHADID and password to access University resources, such as the proxy server for remote access to Library resources, the Canvas and Chalk learning management systems. If you had a previous relationship with the University that resulted in your getting a CNetID, you must use your CNetID - even if you now have an active UCHADID - to access all University-side services.

How can I log into public University workstations?

In order to access public University workstations, you must enter “uchad\” followed by your UCHADID in the username box. In the password box, you will enter your UCHAD password.

Why will UCHADs work for the incoming residents when they do not for current residents?

In the past, CNetIDs were routinely given to residents when they came to the University. The result is that current residents have both a CNetID and a UCHADID. University systems preference the CNetID, so residents who have both must use their CNetID and password for access. However, all University systems (with the exception of the University-side VPN - which is not secure enough for compliance to Hospital data regulations) are accessible using the UCHADID and password. This means that incoming residents and fellows will have one account name and password that will work to access all their services.
