Canvas - Using UChicago Box in Canvas (Instructors and Students)
This article explains how to access Box, and share to documents in Box within Canvas.
Important: To share files via UChicago Box within a Canvas course, it is best to first put the documents you want to share within a folder in Box, then grant access permission to the individuals who should have access. You should *not* grant access permission to “your company” since this will share your documents with everyone at the University. Sharing files intended for a class this way may violate fair use guidelines.
You do not need to activate the Box link in the Course Navigation to share documents in Content Pages and other content area in your Canvas course.
Accessing Box via Course Navigation Menu
Step 1: To access UChicago Box from your Canvas course, click on the Box tab on the course navigation menu. When you use Box for the first time, you will need to log in and grant Box permission.
Step 2: Click Login to Box.
Step 3: On the pop-up window, click Use Single-Sign On and login to UChicago Box with your CNetID and password.
Step 4: Grant access to Box. It may a few minutes before the authorization works. If you get an error message, wait a few moments and refresh the page.
Step 5: You will then see the security screen. Follow the directions on the screen and drag the white cloud into the dark cloud.
Step 6: Now you can access to UChicago Box from your Canvas course. Documents in your UChicago Box are only accessible to you. If you want your students to see your documents, you need to grant them permission, see Box - UChicagoBox Quick Start Guide for instructions on how to share files using Box.
