Canvas - Enabling UChicago Box in Canvas (Instructors)

This article explains how to activate Box integration in Canvas.

UChicago Box (UChicago's instance of, similar to Google Drive, is a cloud file storage/sharing tool. It also allows you to create notes, Google Docs and Spreadsheets. Instructors can enable UChicago Box Integration in Canvas. This integration allows course members to click on the Box link to view documents in their UChicago Box account in Canvas. This is particularly useful for courses with over 2GB of files to share.

Linking to UChicago Box Within A Course

To link to UChicago Box within Canvas, first you need to activate the “Box” link on the Course Navigation menu.

Step 1: Log in to your course and go to Settings at the bottom of the Course Navigation menu.

Step 2: Click on Navigation to edit the Course Navigation menu.

Step 3: Scroll down until you see the tab “Box”. If it is under “Drag items here to hide them from students”, then you need to drag this tab to the upper region or click on the gear icon and select enable to activate it.

Step 4: Drag and drop or click the gear icon and select move to order the course navigation menu.

Step 5: Click Save. Now you and your students can use it through Canvas. If you wish to share documents with your students and co-instructors via Box, you will need to grant them permission to access those files.
