Canvas - Connecting and Giving Students Access to Your Course Blog (Instructor)
This article explains how to use the Canvas-Voices integration tool to add a link to a Voices blog site in the Canvas course navigation menu and allow students to self-enroll as a user of that blog.
The Canvas-Voices integration tool allows instructors to connect their course blog to their Canvas course site, and grant access to students in just a few clicks.
Step 1: If you have not created your course blog yet, create your course blog by clicking the Create Your Site button on UChicago Voices home page, then follow the instructions on the screen to complete the form.
Step 2: Only blog administrators can use the Canvas-Voices integration tool. To connect your course blog to your Canvas course, first make sure that you are logged in as the administrator of the blog.
Step 3: Once you are logged in, go to the Dashboard
Step 4: Under Settings in the menu to the right, go to Canvas LTI.
Step 5: Choose the course for which the course blog is intended.
Step 6: Choose the WordPress role you want to give your students. In most cases, the Author role, which allows students to post blog posts, is appropriate.
Step 7: Once you are done, click Save Changes.
Step 8: Go to your Canvas course site, you and your students should now see a ‘Course Blog’ link on the course navigation menu.
Step 9: Ask your students to click on the Course Blog link to self-enroll in your course blog and be taken to the course blog’s Dashboard (new browser tab).
