Configure Outlook for Windows and Mac

Select below the instructions for configuring the email client to check your Office 365 account.

Configure Outlook 2016 Windows for Office 365

  1. Make sure Outlook is closed.
  2. From the Start menu, open Control Panel > View by Large icons > Mail > Show Profiles
  3. Click Add
  4. Name the profile and click OK
  5. In the E-mail Address field, type your email address – e.g. CNetID@uchicago.edu
  6. If you are prompted for your password, type your CNetID password in the Password field and re-enter your CNetID password to confirm.
  7. Click Next.
  8. After the account configures, click Finish.
  9. Open Outlook. Outlook will open, but it may take several minutes as it prepares for the first use.

Configuring Outlook 2013 (Windows) for Office 365

  1. Open Outlook 2013.
  2. If this is your first time using Outlook, select Email Account. If you have a personal account previously configured, select File > Info > Account Settings > Account Settings > New. Or from the start menu, open Control Panel > View by Large icons > Mail > Show Profiles > Add
  3. Enter your Display name in the Your Name field. eg: Doe, Jane K
  4. Enter your email alias in the Email Address field. eg: CNetID@uchicago.edu
  5. Enter your CNetID password in the Password field.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Wait and you will get a prompt for your credentials. Change the User name to your CNetID@uchicago.edu (eg: jdoe@uchicago.edu) and use your CNetID password. Check the "Remember this password" then click Ok.
  8. Note: you will probably get prompted for your credentials a second time. Repeat step 7. Again it may need to sit for a bit while it contacts the server, but it should be able to complete configuration.
  9. After the account configures, click Finish.
  10. Start Outlook if you aren't already in it. Outlook will open, but it may take several minutes as it prepares for the first use.

Configuring Outlook 2010 for Office 365

In order to use Outlook 2010 with Microsoft Office 365, you must be running the most recent version of Outlook 2010. Please note that this must to be done before moving to Office 365 or before opening Outlook 2010 after moving to Office 365.   1. Open Outlook 2010.
  2. If this is your first time using Outlook, select Email Account. If you have a personal account previously configured, select File > Info > Add Account. Or from the start menu, open Control Panel > View by Large icons > Mail > Show Profiles > Add
  3. Enter your Display name in the Your Name field. eg: Doe, Jane K
  4. Enter your email alias in the Email Address field. eg: CNetID@uchicago.edu
  5. Enter your CNetID password in the Password field.
  6. Click Next.

Configuring Outlook 2016 (Mac) for Office 365

  1. Open Outlook 2016.
  2. Select Tools > Accounts
  3. Click the + sign near the bottom of the Accounts screen and choose Exchange or Office 365 from the drop-down menu.
  4. Enter your email alias in the Email Address field. eg: jane-doe@uchicago.edu
  5. Select User name and password in the Method drop-down menu.
  6. Enter your CNetID@uchicago.edu in the user name field. eg: jdoe@uchicago.edu
  7. Enter your CNetID password in the password field.
  8. Select Configure automatically
  9. Click Add Account.
  10. You will receive a message: "Outlook was redirected to the server autodiscver-s.outlook.com...". Select "Always use my response for this server" and click Allow.
  11. After the account configures, the Accounts dialog box will appear. You may close this window to access your Inbox. Please note that this account setup process may take several minutes.

Configuring Outlook 2011 (Mac) for Office 365

  1. Open Outlook 2011.
  2. Select Tools > Accounts

Configuring Mac Mail on OS 10 for Office 365

For First-Time Logging In

  1. Launch Mac Mail
  2. Account configuration will start automatically
  3. Choose Mail Type: Exchange
  4. Enter your name in the "Name" field
  5. In the Email Address field type your CNetID@uchicago.edu (e.g. jdoe@uchicago.edu)
  6. In the Password field enter your CNetID password
  7. Click Sign In
  8. Typically we will see an error message here and a new window that pops up. Enter the following information:
    1. In the Email Address field enter your alias (jane-doe@uchicago.edu)
    2. In the User Name field enter your CNetID@uchicago.edu (e.g. jdoe@uchicago.edu)
    3. Enter your CNetID password
    4. In both the Internal URL and the External URL fields, enter outlook.office365.com
    5. Click Sign In
  9. Verify your account information and the apps you wish to synchronize with Mac Mail and click Done.

To add an Office 365 Account to your Existing Mac Mailbox

  1. Click Mail > Add Account
  2. Check Exchange and click Continue
  3. Fill in the following details:
    1. Your Name
    2. CNetID@uchicago.edu (jdoe@uchicago.edu)
    3. Enter your CNetID Password
    4. Click Sign In
  4. Select apps that you'd like to incorporate with this mailbox
  5. Click Done

Configuring Windows 8 Mail for Office 365

  1. In order to use Microsoft Mail you will need to be logged into a Microsoft Account. If you don't have a Microsoft Account you can learn how to create one via this link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-live/sign-up-create-account-how
  2. While on the "Start Screen" type Mail to bring up the Windows 8 Mail app.
  3. Once the Mail App launches you will be prompted to log in with your Microsoft Account if you haven't already done so.
  4. Once you are logged in with your Microsoft Account you can begin adding your Office 365 account by swiping in from the right edge of the screen and clicking Settings
  5. Choose Accounts
  6. Choose Add An Account
  7. Select Exchange
  8. Type your email address (e.g., jane-doe@uchicago.edu)
  9. Type your CNetID password.
  10. Click Show More Details
  11. Type outlook.office365.com in the Server Address.
  12. Type your CNetID@uchicago.edu in the Username field.
  13. Click Connect
