xMail - Account Remediation

This article explains how to verify your email settings after your account has been compromised.

If your CNetID has been compromised you should first follow the steps for compromised CNetID account recovery, then return here to check your xMail settings. Compromised accounts are often used to send fraudulent email (spam, phishing) via webmail, and in the process xMail settings are usually changed.

To remediate your email account:

  1. Log in to xMail
  2. Organize Email
  3. Inbox Rules
  4. Delete Filters

1. Log in to xMail and Check Options

Browse to xMail and Login using your CNetID.

Once you are logged in you should see the links for Options and See all Options in the navigation menu on the right side horizontal to the top of the page. For each one, click the link by following the instructions below.


2. Organize Email

After you selected See all Options, you should see the link Organize E-mail in the navigation bar along the left side of the page. Click this link.


3. Inbox Rules

Select Inbox Rules once selected check for any filters set that you did not create. Examples of this would be delete word containing or forwarding mail to other emails.


4. Delete Filters

If there are any filters set that you do not create remove them by clicking delete.
