Box - Why Can't I Log Into UChicagoBox?

This article explains to users why they may be unable to claim or log into their UChicagoBox account, and provides troubleshooting advice for restoring service where possible.

Individuals will be unable to claim or log into their UChicagoBox account in the event that:

  1. Unmanaged Account. The individual has an unmanaged account affiliated with their University email address (

    To resolve: Please change your primary email address to a personal email address. Instructions for changing your email address can be found here.

  2. OHCA Restriction. The individual is employed by an organization that is part of the Organized Health Care Arrangement (OHCA). Examples include faculty/staff in the Division of Biological Sciences, or UChicago Hospitals employees.

    This issue cannot be resolved, as UChicagoBox is not appropriate for HIPAA information or other personal data. Please see BSD Help for more information.

  3. Shibboleth Login Bookmarked. The individual has a bookmark in their browser that points to the Shibboleth login screen, not

    To resolve: Please edit the URL in your bookmark to "" and save your changes.

  4. Incorrect Password Lockout. The individual has incorrectly entered their password more than three times at the Shibboleth login page.

    To resolve: Please contact the ITS Service Desk.

  5. New CNetID. The individual just claimed their CNetID.

    To resolve: please wait approximately two hours after claiming your CNetID before attempting to claim your UChicagoBox account. This allows time for University permissions to sync with UChicagoBox.

  6. CNetID or 2FA Setup Error. An error occurred during setup of the individual's CNetID or 2FA account.

    To resolve: Please contact the ITS Service Desk.

  7. Quick Closure. The individual has entered the Quick Closure process.

    Quick Closure most often occurs when an individual has been released from their position at the University, and the individual's manager has requested that their account eligibility be revoked. Please be aware that IT Services does not determine the eligibility for services. An individual must contact his/her department to correct their records if he/she believes they should retain their account.

  8. Supported Web Browsers and OS Version Compatibility.

    Box supports the current and prior major releases of the following web browsers and desktop/mobile Operating System (OS) versions. While Box is compatible with older web browsers, most interface issues encountered are easily resolved by simply updating your browser to the latest version.

    Web Browsers

    Internet Explorer (IE) - The two latest versions.

    Box Notes and the Box Upload Widget are only supported on IE10 and IE11, it will not work on earlier versions.
    File/Folder Uploading on IE7, IE8, and IE9 requires Adobe Flash (drag and drop uploading not supported).
    Support for IE7 (including Compatibility View in IE8 or any other version of compatibility mode that represents IE7) ended on October 31, 2014.
    *IMPORTANT!* Support for IE8 is ending on December 31, 2015. *IMPORTANT!*
    Support for IE9 is ending on June 30, 2016.
    IE6 and earlier versions are NOT supported.

    Microsoft Edge - Box Drag-n-Drop isn't working in Win10 with Edge. You can click the ellipsis (…) on the upper-right corner > Open with Internet Explorer, then try to drag and drop the file again.

    Safari - The two latest versions on Mac OS X (as specified in the OS section below).

    Safari on iOS 6 and above for mobile browsers.

    Firefox - The two latest versions.

    Chrome -The two latest versions.

    Operating Systems (OS):

    Windows - 7 (32-bit and 64-bit), 8 (64-bit), and 10 (32-bit and 64-bit)

    Support for Windows XP and Vista ended on October 31, 2014.

    Android - The two latest versions.

    Additionally, Box supports versions of Android released within the last three years.

    OS X - The two latest versions:

    Support for OS X 10.7 ended on October 31, 2014.
    Note: Box Sync supports the three latest versions.

    iOS - The two latest versions.
