Chalk - Browser Issues and Missing Audio/Video Course Content (Instructors and Students)

This article explains how to view blocked or missing audio or video content in Chalk.

Why Enable Unsafe Script Content?

With the latest browser upgrades and security features, there may be embedded audio/video content that is no longer viewable in the player. This document provides a workaround for Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Chrome browsers that will allow the player to play the audio/video file. The same basic procedure is followed in each browser. If a page contains secure and insecure content, the browser will default to blocking the insecure content on the page.

Firefox Version 23+

  1. Click the Shield icon in the Address bar.
  2. Click the drop-down arrow next to the Keep Blocking button, then select the Disable Protection on This Page item.

  3. Refresh the page to view the updated change in the Address bar. The Audio/Video content should display in the player.

Note: This content is available while in the current course ONLY. The process should be repeated if a new course is accessed or the browser exits out of Chalk.

Google Chrome

Similar to Firefox, Chrome places a Shield icon in the Address bar. Note: The Shield appears AFTER the address.

  1. Click the Shield icon in the Address bar.

  2. Click the Load unsafe script link. The page refreshes and the Audio/Video content should appear in the Player.

Internet Explorer

Internet Explorer blocks insecure content and displays a blank area in place of the content. In order to display blocked content, turn on the Compatibility View .

  1. Click the Compatibility View icon in the Address bar.

  2. Click the Show all content button. The page refreshes and the Audio/Video content should appear in the Player.

Note: This updated player is available while in the current course and any additional course you elect to open. The process should be repeated if the browser exits out of Chalk.

Safari

The Safari browser DOES NOT have a compatibility issue. The player should play as expected without any technical issues.
