xMail - Configuring BlackBerry 10 Devices for Active Sync via Advanced Settings

This article explains how to configure the advanced settings of a Blackberry 10 device to connect to the University of Chicago xMail system.

  1. Select Settings from the main menu

  2. Select Accounts from the settings menu

  3. Select Advanced at the bottom of the add account screen (not the email, calendar, and contacts option)

  4. Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync

  5. Enter email account information
    • Description: enter a name for the account (i.e. Uchicago xMail)
    • Domain: ad.local
    • Username: your CNetID
    • Email address: enter your full email address
    • Password: enter your CNet password
    • Server Address:
    • Port: 443
    • Use SSL slider: On
    • Use VPN slider: Off
    • Push slider: On
    • Sync Interval: locked on manual
    • Sync Timeframe: set by default to 30 days
  6. Click Next on the blue ribbon at the top

  7. The device verifies the connection settings, then presents the options of what items to sync (Email, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, Memos). By default, all of these are on. If you wish to leave them on, simple click Done on the blue ribbon at the top. If you wish to change them, simply change the ones you don't want to sync, then click Done.
