UChicago Sites - Content - Adding Homepage Features and Mini Features

This article explains how to add homepage features and mini features in UChicago Sites.

Homepage features are the images and associated headline and blurb which appear at the top of your site's homepage. As its name suggests, it is used to draw your site visitors' attention to a particular aspect of your site, usually something timely.

Mini features are displayed in the right column of the homepage, underneath the homepage features. Use mini features to highlight upcoming events, important news or announcements, or anything which deserves extra attention.

Homepage Features

You can create just one or many homepage features. If you create more than one, the feature area will automatically transition every few seconds between the five most recent features, ordered by the "Authored on" date.

Create a New Homepage Feature

To create a homepage feature:

  1. Log in to your UChicago Site.
  2. Go to the toolbar at the top and click Add content

  3. Click Homepage feature.

  4. Enter your content on the form.
    1. Title is the text in color box.
    2. Feature Blurb is the short explanatory text in white box.
    3. Feature Link appears at the bottom of the feature blurb and links to another webpage.
    4. Feature Images must be at least must be at least 900 pixels wide and 400 pixels high. Images larger than 900 x 400 pixels will be automatically cropped and resized to fit in the feature area. You can not upload images smaller than 900 x 400. After you upload your feature image, you will see a preview of what it will look like after any cropping/resizing.

    5. Enter Alternate Text and Title for the Feature Image.
  5. Click Save as Draft to preview or Publish to publish the feature directly.

Your homepage features will be displayed in chronological order based on their "Authored on" date, from newest to oldest. To reorder your homepage features:

  5. Click Save. If you've used the current date, this feature will now be first in the rotation on your homepage.

You can use this method to edit each of the features' authored on dates, making the your first feature "Authored on" today, the next one yesterday, etc to get the features in your preferred order.

Mini Features

Mini features include an image, a title and a blurb. The title appears just below the image with the blurb underneath the title.

Although you can create more than one mini feature, only the latest mini feature will be displayed on the homepage. If the wrong mini feature is displayed, you can either unpublish all the mini features except the one you want to display, or ensure that the publish date for the correct mini feature is the latest possible date.

Create a new mini feature

  1. Log in to your UChicago Site.
  2. Go to the toolbar at the top and click Add content

  3. Click Homepage mini feature.
  4. Enter your content on the form.
  5. Click Publish to publish or Save as Draft to preview the mini feature.
