Budget Planning and Management - Delphi Planning - Automatic Timeout and Timeout Error When Submitting Data

This article explains details about the timeout setting in the Delphi Planning web application and Smart View connection in Excel.

This article explains details about the timeout setting in the Delphi Planning web application and Smart View connection in Excel.

For security reasons, your web application connection to the Delphi Planning server will time out after you have been inactive for 15 minutes.

Symptoms

In Smart View, when you are submitting or retrieving data over a connection to the server, the connection times out after 30 seconds by default. If you leave the default timeout value in place, you may receive a timeout error when retrieving or submitting data and when running business rules.

Cause

When you install the Excel Smart View add-in, the Smart View installation tools sets the system timeout for you machine to 60 minutes. However, other applications may alter this timeout setting. For example, the IRF Business Objects Desktop Intelligence installation tool sets this timeout setting to 10 minutes. Occasionally, a Microsoft Windows update or new Internet Explorer version installation will reset this timeout setting to 30 seconds.

Solution

If this occurs, you will need to reset the timeout to 60 minutes. You will need to be a local administrator on your machine to perform these steps.

  1. Close Smart View and any Microsoft Office applications you are using.
  2. Download the RegAdd.zip file.
  3. Open the zip file at the browser download prompt (Internet Explorer) or in the download manager (Firefox).
  4. In the zip folder, double-click the RegAdd.cmd file.
  5. Click Yes or Run to continue past the security prompts and run the update.
  6. A command prompt window should open briefly and close.
  7. The timeout should be updated and you can re-open Smart View in Excel or other Microsoft Office product.
