UChicago Sites - Configuration - Enable the Plaisance Theme

This article explains how to enable the new Plaisance theme on UChicago Sites.

1 - Site Settings and Features

  • Click on Configuration in your site's toolbar.
  • Click on the Site Settings and Features link in the Content Authoring section of the configuration screen. This new screen has replaced the Themes link in the toolbar.

2 - Select the Plaisance Theme

  • From the list of available options in the Themes drop-down at the top of the screen, select Plaisance.
  • Click Save settings at the bottom of the screen.

3 - Test Your Site

After enabling the Plaisance theme, it is very important that you spend a few minutes clicking around your site to make sure everything still looks ok. Because the Plaisance theme has a wider main content area, you may want to insert larger images on some pages. A new image style called "extra-wide" will insert images at the full width of the Plaisance theme main content area. For more information, watch the video about working with images on your UChicago Site.

Please note that if your site includes any customization to the header or footer, or any other specialized formatting, your customizations may not be carried over or may not display correctly in the Plaisance theme. If you encounter any issues you cannot resolve by simple edits to your content, you can switch back to the Phoenix theme at any time. Use the Feedback and Support link in your toolbar to report any issues with the Plaisance theme.

You're all done, but keep reading to learn what additional display options are available with the new Plaisance theme.

Site Title and Font Size

With the release of the Plaisance theme, you now have the ability to edit the title of your site as it appears in the header. To include a line break in your site title, enter [br] where you want the line break to appear. The Plaisance theme also allows you to select a font size for your site title as it appears in your header. When you enable the Plaisance theme, a default value is selected based on the length of your site title, so you should not need to change this value unless you update your site name.

To change your site name and font size:

  • Click on Configuration in your site's toolbar.
  • Click on the Site Settings and Features link in the Content Authoring section of the configuration screen.
  • Specify a new site name and font size as shown below:
    Plaisance theme options

  • Click Save Settings.

Homepage Feature Image Size

The Plaisance theme gives you the ability to specify the size for displaying your homepage features. The "small" format looks much like the Phoenix theme, (W452px x H200px), while the "large" format displays a much larger image (W900px x H400px).

To change the homepage feature image size:

  • Click on Configuration in your site's toolbar.
  • Click on the Site Settings and Features link in the Content Authoring section of the configuration screen.
  • Under Plaisance Theme Settings > "Would you like to display large or small images in your homepage features?" check to see if there is a warning about the size of your homepage features, as shown below:
Image check will let you know if your images are too small
If you see this warning, it is because one or more of your homepage feature images is smaller than is required by the "large" format. To prevent your images from being stretched to fit the larger space, you should upload new homepage feature images at least 900 pixels wide and 400 pixels high for each of the features listed in the warning message.
  • Use the drop-down menu to choose the size of your homepage feature image size.
  • Click Save Settings.
