Budget Planning and Management - Delphi Planning - Setting Preferences

This article explains how users can set their preferences in Delphi.

This article explains how users can set their preferences in Delphi.

You can set your Workspace preferences in Delphi Planning to change the general appearance and select custom formatting and display options.

To see the Workspace preference settings, click File > Preferences in the menu bar.

Workspace has several categories of preference settings; however, you will only need to use General, Explore, Financial Reporting, and Planning for Delphi Planning.

  • General includes your default startup settings. We recommend you use Home Page as your default home page until you become more familiar with the system.
  • You can also request a prompt to save any unsaved documents, and to show the file path when you are navigating through the folder structure of Workspace.

Explore Preferences

In Explore, you can choose your default starting folder when working with your reports, and designate a default location to store new documents.

Financial Reporting Preferences

  • Determine the default preview mode for your reports, either HTML or PDF. We recommend HTML so that you can use the dynamic drilling feature included in some reports. You can switch to PDF to save or print a report to include the level of detail you need.
  • Set your point-of-view (POV) to be On or Off. We recommend always leaving this on because most Delphi Planning reports use point-of-view to provide dynamic reports.

You will need to change a setting within the Setup members area to allow for direct key entry for report point-of-views. Make sure to leave Merge Equivalent Prompts selected to simplify the point-of view-prompts where possible by asking only once for variables used multiple times. This way, you can set other preferences for exporting to Microsoft Office applications, such as separators and date formatting.

Planning Preferences

Here you can set preferences for each Delphi Planning application. Defaults are stored in a central file, and we recommended that you set all application, display, and printing options to the default. User Variables preferences are specific to executive users, and should be set appropriately for executive forms to work properly.

There are four tabs within Planning Preferences:

Applications Settings: includes email controls and approval options associated with Delphi Planning workflow. We do not use process management or workflow so these options do not need to be adjusted.

Display Options: includes options for setting specific number formatting, page options for data forms, and general workspace controls.

Printing Options: these settings control how data forms print by default from Workspace. You can choose to apply formatting and to include specified content. You can adjust these settings for individual print jobs.

User Variables: select specific dimension member values to limit member selections when using data forms. This can help speed up your data entry on forms throughout Workspace.
