Chalk - Upload a Video (Instructors)

This article explains how to upload a video or audio file to your course using the Kaltura tool.

To upload a video or audio file

Uploading media files using Kaltura Media can take some time. Please make sure you give yourself a few hours for the upload if uploading larger video or audio files.

  1. Open a course contents page in your site where you want the media to appear.
  2. Click the Tools button and select Kaltura Media.

  3. Click the Add Media button and click Upload media or record from webcam.

  4. Select either the Video or Audio tab.
  5. The upload box opens offering two options:

    • Upload – used to upload a media file from your computer
    • Webcam – used to create a video using your webcam

  6. To upload a video or audio file, on the Upload tab click the Browse button, select the file(s) you want to upload, and click Open. The file must be in a format accepted by Kaltura.

  7. Note : If you upload multiple items, the first file selected will appear as the item on your course page. The other items will be loaded in My Media where they can be added to the course using a separate procedure.

  8. With the file(s) listed in the Video or Audio tab, click the Upload! button.

  9. Important: The size of the video or audio will affect the upload time. Depending on the size of the file, uploading can take anywhere from a few moments to a few hours. Please be patient.

    When the upload is complete, "Done" appears in the Status column.

  10. Click the Next button. A thumbnail image or audio placeholder for your item appears. Click it to change the Title, insert Tags, and type a Description. Any tags you add may help you find the item at a later time if you have uploaded many videos.
  11. Click Next to process the upload.
  12. Enter a Title and a description if desired.
  13. Select the Mash-up option radio buttons to decide whether to show media information and description and tags
  14. Attach or link any additional desired content
  15. In the Options section, select whether to make the item available to users, to track the number of views, and enter any date and time restrictions.
  16. Click the Submit button.

The media clip appears on your course contents page.
