SharePoint 2010 - Editing the Home Page
This article explains how to edit pages in SharePoint, including how to check out a page for editing.
Accessing Edit Mode
There are several ways to access edit mode once you're logged in and on the home page.
- Select Site Actions > Edit Page
- Click the Edit Page icon on the home page.
- Click the Page tab to display the Microsoft Ribbon and choose Edit.
The Editing Tools tabs appears, and the ribbon changes to show tools for Formatting text.
The ribbon has tools for adding tables, pictures, links, files, Web Parts, and lists. The content area also becomes active in Edit mode.
When Web parts are selected, additional tools become available in the ribbon.
To check out a page, select the Check Out button from the Format Text tab of the Editing Tools group on the ribbon.
To change the structural layout of a page, click Text Layout from the Format Text tab of the Editing Tools group on the ribbon.
After completing edits, check the page back in by clicking Check In from the Format Text tab. SharePoint returns to Browse mode.
