IT Services Website Editing - Linking to Other Pages or Documents

This article explains how to link to a web page or document within the main IT Services Website.

Linking to Pages Inside of the Main ITS Website

  1. In the WYSIWYG editor, highlight the text you want to link, then click the link button in the toolbar.

  2. Select URL as the link type.

  3. In the URL box, enter the page path beginning with / and without the domain name itservices.uchicago.edu.
    Example: to link to the Communications Team page (http://itservices.uchicago.edu/page/it-services-communications),
    Enter: /page/it-services-communications

    Note: The ITS Website has an auto-link feature for all text that begins with http(s):// or text that contains with the @ sign. If your highlighted text has one of these features, a link will automatically generate when the page is published.

Linking to Pages Outside of the Main ITS Website

  1. In the WYSIWYG editor, highlight the text you want to link, then click the link button in the toolbar.

  2. In the URL box, enter the entire page path beginning with http. For example, to link to the University's home page, enter http://www.uchicago.edu.
  3. External links should be opened in a new browser window. Click the Target tab and choose New Window (_blank).

Linking to Documents

  1. In the WYSIWYG editor, highlight the text you want to link, then click the link button in the toolbar.

  2. Select URL as the link type.

  3. Click Browse Server.

  4. In the navigation pane, choose the directory that corresponds to the section of your page.

  5. Select the appropriate file or upload a file from your computer. To upload a file, click Upload at the top left corner and choose the appropriate files from your computer.

  6. Click Insert File in the top header bar.

  7. Click OK.
