This article explains basic telephone features to Intecom telephone users.

Conference Calls (Traditional Phone)

To set up a 3-way conference call:

  1. Dial first party (internal or external) from existing call
  2. ITE-4: press ACCESS; press # 1
    STE: press flash switchhook or flash button; listen for "enter, enter," press * 1
    TE-12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: press TRNSFR 3-WAY CONF; listen for dial tone
  3. Dial second internal or external number
  4. Announce conference, if desired
  5. ITE-4: press ACCESS; press # 1
    STE: press * 1
    ITE-12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: press TRNSFR 3-WAY CONF
  6. All parties are now connected

To set up a four-to-seven-way conference call:

  1. Dial first party (internal or external);
  2. ITE-4: press ACCESS; press # 1
    STE: press flash switchhook or flash button; listen for "enter, enter," press # 1
    ITE-12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: press CONF; listen for dial tone
  3. Dial internal or external number of additional party
  4. Announce conference, if desired
  5. ITE-4: press # 1
    STE: press flash switchhook or flash button; listen for "enter, enter" press # 1
    ITE-12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: press CONF
  6. All parties are now connected

Do Not Disturb

This feature is not available with voicemail

To activate:

  1. ITE-4 and STE: press * 6
    ITE-12+,12S, 12SD, 30: press DO NOT DISTURB
  2. Listen for confirmation tone

To cancel:

  1. ITE-4and STE: press # 6
    ITE-12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: press DO NOT DISTURB
  2. Listen for confirmation tone

Hold

Place a call on hold on a VoIP phone

To place a call on hold, press <<Hold>>. To retrieve a held call, press <<Resume>>. If multiple calls are on hold, use Navigation to select the correct call before pressing <<Resume>>.

Place a call on hold on a traditional phone

  1. ITE-4, 12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: press HOLD
    STE: press flash switchhook or flashbutton; listen for "enter, enter"; press * 4
  2. To alternate between HOLD/RETRIEVE
  • ITE-4, 12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: press HOLD
  • STE: listen for "held, held"; get dial tone; press * 4

Redial

Redial the last outside number on a Traditional Phone

ITE-4: press * 9
STE: press # 9
ITE 12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: press LAST # REDIAL

Transfer

Transfer a call on a traditional phone

Unannounced transfer:

  1. ITE-4: press XFER
    STE: press flash switchhook or flash button; listen for "enter, enter"; press * 1
    ITE-12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: press TRNSFR 3-WAY CONF
  2. Dial internal number; hang up

Announced transfer:

  1. ITE-4: Press XFER
    STE: press flash switchhook or flash button; listen for "enter, enter"; press * 1
    ITE-12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: press TRNSFR 3-WAY CONF
  2. Dial internal number; announce call; hang up

Call Forwarding

Redirect your calls to another number.

To forward all calls:

  1. ITE-4 and STE: press * 3
    ITE-12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: press CALL FORWRD
  2. Listen for confirmation tone
  3. Dial number to where calls will be forwarded (5 digits for on campus calls; 9 + 1 + 10 digits for off campus calls); listen for confirmation tone
  4. ITE-4 and STE: listen for "forward, forward”
    ITE 12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: make sure red “Call Forward” lamp is steady
  5. Hang up headset

To cancel Call Forwarding:

  1. ITE-4 and STE: press # 3
    ITE-12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: press CALL FORWRD
  2. Listen for confirmation tone
    ITE-12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: “Call Forward” lamp should be off

Dialing

Campus, local, and domestic calling are included in the monthly phone service.

Internal Call

Dial the 5-digit extension.

Local Call

Dial 9 + 1 + area code + 7-digit phone number.

Off Campus Call

To call local and domestic numbers:

  • Dial 9 + 1 + Area Code + 7-digit phone number
  • To redial your last off-campus call, enter #9

To place an international call:

  • Traditional phone: Dial 9 + 011+ Country Code + Telephone Number

Speed Dials and Abbreviated Dialing

Abbreviated Dialing on ITE Telephones

Store up to ten phone numbers; one hundred numbers may be stored upon special request by calling 2-5800 or sending email to ITServices@uchicago.edu.

To store abbreviated dial numbers:

  1. ITE-4 and STE: press # 4;
    ITE-12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: press ABBRV DIAL button
  2. Press *
  3. Press the digit (0 through 9) you wish to serve as abbreviation number; listen for confirmation tone
    Note: If more than 10 abbreviated numbers are requested, dial codes will be numbered from 00 to 99.
  4. Dial number to be stored (5 digits for on campus numbers; 9+1+10 digits for off campus numbers; authcode may be necessary)
  5. Listen for confirmation tone; number is stored
  6. Write down the abbreviation and the number for your reference

To place an abbreviated dial call:

  1. ITE-4 and STE: press # 4;
    ITE-12+, 12S, 12SD, 30: press ABBRV DIAL button
  2. Dial abbreviated dial number (from 0 to 9 or 00 to 99); call is placed

Mute Feature:

To listen, but not to be heard:

  • Press the MUTE button in the lower left corner on the 12S and 12SD models

To cancel mute feature:

  • Press the MUTE button

Speakerphone:

To place a call without lifting the handset:

  • Press speaker button located in lower right corner of phone; listen for dial tone
  • Dial desired number
  • Call is answered
  • Lift handset to speak (12+ only)

To answer a call without lifting the handset, or to transfer from the handset to the speakerphone during a call:

Press the SPKR button in the lower right corner of the touchpad

If the handset was in use, return it to the cradle
