Chalk - Grade a Discussion Board Forum (Instructors)

This article explains how an instructor grades a Discussion Board Forum in Chalk.

Why Grade Discussion Forums?

An online Discussion Board is a great tool for student communication and social interaction. Graded discussion forums provide additional avenues for an Instructor to evaluate a student's participation and contribution to their course grade.  Points may be awarded based on the originality of the topic created (Forum) or the number of contributing replies (Threads) by each student. A Grade Center column is automatically created for graded discussion forums after specific settings have been elected. See Create a Discussion Board Forum for more information.

Grade the Discussion Forum:

  1. On the Course Menu, click Discussion Board.

  2. Click the Drop-down arrow next to the Forum Name.

  3. Click Grade.

  4. Click the Grade button for a specific student.

The Student's Thread (Replies) and other students who have contributed to the discussion appears. In addition, other forum statistics displays in the right panel.

  5. Enter the Grade and Feedback, then click the Submit button.

The grade will also appear in the Grade Center.
