xMail - Outlook 2011 for Mac Configuration Guide

This article explains how to configure the Outlook 2011 for Mac OSX email client for use with the xMail service.


  1. After installing Office 2011, start Outlook 2011.  Choose Create new settings and Continue from the initial screen.

  2. Select Exchange Account from the account type choices.

  3. In the Enter your Exchange account information window:
    • E-mail address:CNetID@uchicago.edu
    • Authentication Method: choose User Name and Password
    • User name: prefix your CNetID with ADLOCAL\
    • Password : type your CNet password
    • Ensure that the Configure automatically option is checked
    • Select the Add Account button

  4. Enter the Account Description field (examples: xMail, work) then close the Accounts window. 
  5. At this point Outlook 2011 should find all the account settings automatically, and your email should start to appear. Depending on the amount of email you have on the server, it might take a few minutes for all of your messages to appear.
