Sending Email from Gmail with a From: @uchicago.edu Address

This article explains how to send email from Gmail which will appear to use your @uchicago.edu email address.

  1. Log in to Gmail.
  2. Click Mail Settings from Options and select the Accounts and Import tab
  3. Under "Send mail as", click Send mail from another address
  4. Enter your name and @uchicago.edu email address in the "Add another email address you own" window
  5. Select Next Step
  6. Choose "Send through uchicago.edu SMTP servers" and complete the following fields:
    • SMTP Server: authsmtp.uchicago.edu
    • Port: 465
    • Username: your CNetID
    • Password: your CNetID password
    • Select the Secured Connection using SSL option
  7. Click Add Account
  8. Once you receive a confirmation email message from Gmail at your @uchicago.edu email address, either click the link in the message or enter the confirmation code in the Accounts section of your Gmail settings
  9. Click on the "Make Default" link next to your @uchicago.edu address under Settings>Accounts and Import if desired
