Mailing Lists - Archives Settings

This article explains how to change email list archives via the Mailing List Service.

Navigation: Select an email list from the left navigation bar. In the navigation bar, click Admin, then Edit List Config, then Archives.

Web archives

Access right - This field indicates who has access to the web archives for the email list.

  • Closed - Use this setting if you don't want anyone to be able to view the archives for the email list.
  • Restricted to local domain users - Use this setting if you want anyone on the local network to be able to view the archives for the email list.
  • Listmaster - Use this setting if you only want the listmaster to be able to view the archives for the email list.
  • By owner - Use this setting if you only want list owners to be able to view the archives for the email list.
  • Subscribers only - Use this setting if you want subscribers, moderators and list owners to be able to view the archives for the email list.
  • Public - Use this setting if you want anyone to be able to view the archives for the email list.

Text archives - This setting cannot be changed.

Archive encrypted mails as cleartext - This field indicates how you want encrypted messages to be stored in the web archives.

  • Decrypted - Use this setting to decrypt encrypted messages and store them as plain-text.
  • Original - Use this setting to leave retain the encryption on encrypted messages in the web archive.
Email address protection method - This field indicates if and how to obscure email address links in the archives to prevent scraping (and subsequent spam) by robots. This is particularly important for lists with public archives.
  • At- Use this setting to replace "@" with "at" in the email address.
  • Cookie- Use this setting to require a cookie for access. Users must submit a small form in order to receive a cookie before browsing the archives. This blocks all robots, including search engines such as Google.
  • Javascript - Use this setting to obscure the email address with a javascript link. This option makes the javascript necessary to view the email address.
  • None- Use this setting if you don't want to use any protection against robots in the web archive.
