xMail - Configure Windows Mobile 5/6

This article explains how to set up a Windows Mobile 5/6 device for xMail.

Setting up a Windows Mobile 5/6 device for xMail

These instructions will work with most similar Windows Mobile devices, including:

  • RIM Blackjack
  • AT&T Tilt
  • AT&T 5925
  • Palm Treo 700
  • Palm Treo 750

Here is a basic walkthrough for configuring this Windows Mobile device to work with xMail:

  1. Go to Start > Activesync > Menu > Configure Server
    • Server address: xmail.uchicago.edu
    • Check "This server requires an encrypted (SSL) connection"
  2. Click Next.
  3. In the next menu:
    • Username: Your CNetID
    • Password: CNet Password
    • Domain: adlocal
    • Check the Save Password box (required for automatic syncing).
  4. Click Next.
  5. Choose the data that you would like to synchronize (at least Calendar & Email).
  6. Click Finish.

You may get a message that Exchange has the ability to synchronize items automatically as they arise. Click Yes to allow this, and you will have PUSH enabled ("Blackberry-like behavior").

You can edit the peak schedule times that your device will sync. To do so, go to Start > Activesync > Menu > Schedule > Menu > Peak Times to specify the times, then click Done.
