UChicago Card - Lost/Stolen Card Procedure

This article explains how to report a lost or stolen UChicago card.

Lost UChicago Cards

If you have lost your UChicago Card, email lostcard@uchicago.edu or stop by the ID & Privileges Office during business hours to have it deactivated. Hours are M-Th 8:30am-6:00pm, Friday 8:30am-5:00pm, and Saturday 9:00am-1:00pm.

Note: A deactivated card can be reactivated at anytime until a replacement is issued. Once the replacement card is issued, a deactivated card remains permanently disabled.

Where to get your replacement UChicago Card

UChicago Cards are issued at the ID & Privileges Office. The cost of a replacement UChicago Card is $20.00. The ID & Privileges Office accepts accepts cash, checks, and Visa or Mastercard, and students have the option of having the charge being billed to your student account with the Bursar's Office.

What happens to services linked to my lost/stolen UChicago Card?

Laundry funds on the card are encoded directly on the card and should be treated as cash. Any laundry money on your lost UChicago Card are lost along with the card. If you find your old card after it has been deactivated, bring both cards to the ID & Privileges Office so that the funds can be transferred to the new card.

Access to student housing is automatically linked to your new card within 30 minutes. Contact the front desk at your dorm if you need to use your new card immediately.

Meal plans and Maroon Dollars are automatically linked to your new card within 30 minutes. Contact dining@uchicago.edu or 1-855-862-3463 (1-855-UOC-DINE) if you need to use your new card immediately.

Access that has already been established to other buildings on campus is linked to your new card overnight. Contact your department or building manager if you need to use your new card immediately.

Your library barcode and Library access is updated by the ID & Privileges Office as your new card is printed.

Your Unified Printing account will be automatically linked to your new card within 30 minutes. Contact the Canon Care associate at if you need to use your new card immediately.

Stolen UChicago Cards

Please report the theft of your UChicago Card to University Police. Police reports can be filed at 6054 S. Drexel Avenue. If you are unable to come in, call the UC Communications Center at 773-702-8181. The ID & Privileges Office will replace a stolen UChicago Card at no charge if you can supply the number from the police report.
